this video rly looks funny
mainly cuz truly old AG players are usually willing to play wellknown maps instead of unpopular ones
and who the fk plays rats? lol srsly

i dont see anyone complaining about mappool except you 3 guys (executable, stefnnnn, griffin)
well, exec must be a cs player then it will be reasonable why he is ok to play 3 maps at all
https://ptpimg.me/6dvltc.png
(for those out there, this is how debates about mappool ended up at some other place)
just funny how he started and how he finished after several losings
i respect his vision on the map pool but definitely cant agree with it

but you guys are newcomers, right ?
StefNNNN Joined: November 10, 2016

and as you may have read at the above this league called 'elite'
well then if maps here are too hard for you, prolly you are not the elite yet ? ;)
bcuz complains about to change whole league for 3(2) newcomers sounds really cheap
as it always was, newcomers should align to the league, not the opposite
are you xbox360 generation, wanna make a step and have an achievement, or what ?
or maybe you are also came from cs? that will explain much

in fact you have more chances to beat oldschoolers at unpopular maps instead of wellknow ones

btw StefNNNN, how much time you have spent doing this video? approx. 20 mins ?
you could call a mate and learn a new map instead but..

we can talk about it :)
im bored at work
this is chat section, isnt ?

Good job finding the posts, but in my defense, I started complaining about the map pool way before the losses. I just realized that I'm not having any fun playing maps I don't know, no matter if I'm winning or not. I don't have a problem with losing fair and square on a map I know.

Also, I find it hard to enjoy the map when my opponent isn't having any fun, I would rather have both of us play maps that we're both good at and see who wins.

I'd say it's more like listening to your favorite music. There are some tracks that just never get old. But that's not the point. The point is to get more competitive games, that's really all there is to it.

Anyway, if you don't want to reduce the map pool, a simple solution would be having the teams post the map picks beforehand, either a week before the game or at the start of the season (all maps vs each team). This alone makes the league more competitive because the teams have a week (or entire season) to play and learn the maps that have been posted, instead of having to sit 20 mins through a map they haven't heard of (where's the competition in that?). It's easy to say that you could just learn all 60 maps in the pool, but I don't see anyone doing it.

This "surprise map pick" thing really doesn't work well in a competitive setting.

well you can compete on any map, all these maps here are not without purpose.
its a miracle 19y.o. game still has something you dont know
and instead of accepting challenge you act like
'fk it! i can play my good ol' maps! why should i learn soemthing new"

i noticed a team in that LLHL league that picked dm_delve as their homemap
this map was played here by noone and they picked it as home one, what a brave men.
that only proves that what you do here have some consequences.
if playing same maps again and again you will even run out of turks someday.

my team and me were who did that, as you can see we are also participating here from 2016, and it wasnt as hard as you describe

we are working on this for the next season, so everyone will be happy. no spoilers

It's nice to have some challenge, I agree. But playing good old maps does not eliminate the challenge, in fact, it makes the games challenging for both teams, because if you play a map that the other team does not know, then it's not very challenging for you. I see where you're getting at, though, maybe at this point the community is just tired of playing classic maps and they want to try something new. That's fine, but I feel like the league should determine which team is the best at the game on fair grounds, not which one is best at picking unknown maps (I know it's not all about that, but there's some truth to it).

Either way, glad to see some improvement.

Oh and, about the messages, I'm just editing the post. You can uncheck the thing that shows you've edited it.

Opinions are not left unheard. After all this system was made after players suggested it for EHLL 40. A vote was made for EHLL 41. There will be updates for EHLL 42. Just play your games, be on time for your match or warn in advance if you won't make it, and give it your best.

Really just made this to keep the spark in the conversation about the map pool :) I dont agree with throwing maps etc because you dont know them. I always think you should do your best within the circumstances around you. And i told this to my teammates. I personally think that with the somewhat small playerbase we have it is just a stupid idea to reject newcomers which essentially is what is happening with such a large map pool. If there is never any changes in anything then yes it might be good for the people that has always been enjoying it the way that it is. But history shows in many examples from different communities and games that it will eventually die out and flatline completely, if no changes or progression is made.

Hope you understand what i mean :)

To powell this is not about changing for 2-3 people as you describe it. This is about the future of ehll and AG in general. When you have been doing something for 10-20 years then you eventually get tunnel vision and dont really see every side of things.

map pool is ridiculously big, has been for years - always thought it should be reduced, glad to see others agree

for those of you who started AG since (i dunno...) 2006-2008, maybe these maps have been in rotation in your games/leagues/geographies but for those of us who played since the start we never heard of a lot of them :P

personally i think it's a shame older valve maps are not being played as much as some newer ones

one thing i noticed, the newer maps (most of them) are f*king HUGE, it makes for very sound-based 'camp-style' games which personally i always found boring, if 1-2 mins goes by ingame and i don't see an opponent i start smoking or chatting in teamspeak just to stay awake :sailor:

respect all the opinions put forward so far, if i do another tournament the map pool won't be larger than 15-20 for sure though ;)

Thats why i mentioned a while ago that the map pool could be rotated with for example 15 different maps each season to make diversity in maps.

Edited your post by mistake wanted to make a post.

determine which team is the best at the game on fair grounds
as i told many times these grounds are fair enough, even if (for you) they are new ones
some people are just seemed to be too lazy to look around these grounds

also good question is what time you need to learn a map to feel good there and be able to compete?
maybe you are about to play map 1000 times before starting to compete on it ?
then i can understand your worries

StefNNNN

But history shows in many examples from different communities and games that it will eventually die out and flatline completely, if no changes or progression is made.
good words !
and then again you suggest to play maps that were played here for over a decade almost two
kinda contradictory, isnt it ?

not sure what this related with
but making a mappool of 10 core hl maps is a defently step back, not to the future
imo its like twice worse when solid homemaps were in use
and i never been doing something about league gaming for 10-20 years
im playing AG since my acct at this forum registered

are you kidding?
for all these years you didnt bother to have a look ?
may i say......... oligofrenic logic :)

anyway thats a good prove of what i've said in post #7

I chose dm_delve and asked my team if they wanted to play it, they agreed to play that map despite being new to AG. I want the new ones to learn to play new maps and not get stuck in crossfire and stalkx as it always happens in Latin America.

We did not practice, besides being difficult to find it since the only link was dead, I had to enter a Russian server to download it, but it will be good for a 3v3 I'm sure.
