I did alot research these days. Facts: - The hldm/halflife(mods) community worldwide is "very potent" and alive. but we are to divided. - There are hlmd/halflife players on steam but also on hacked and improved old halflife clients. - There are still players which play old HL mods, but there are also still players which want to play their old mods but can't, because of dead communities. - Apart from ehll there are other communities like hlfx.ru and aghl.ru. these people are very talented coder and they share the big passion with us. and this passion is the nostalgia for the oldschool games halflife and quake. - these people are still working on the old hl client by fixing bugs or by improving with new functions. - there are already "compatible" clients which works with the goldsrc systems like xash3d or hlfx. but also a new engine (Volatile3D II) which is based on goldsrc, quake 1-quake 3. - hlfx also made their own "map editor"(Jackhammer) which works with hl and quake 1-3 so why dont we put all strings together? why dont we try to get all the active hl coders and modders together? why dont we create a goldsrc like opensource client which we can improve by yourself and which runs with all the the we known "halflife" mods? imagine a client which brings many many halflife players together again. there are thousands of thousands players which want to play their old Halflife mods against others again, but it isnt possible because of dead communities which doesnt have any server or webites anymore where people can come together. so why dont we create this opportunity? imagine a client in which you don't need to download the mods. You see a mod server and you can join it. the client is downloading the necessary data and you can play without searching and downloading the mod. this will attract many many players and in my eyes it can revive the halflife community. iam still dreaming of a 2nd aweking. :420: |

if you know these guys I'd say let's start talking to them it's always been difficult to get people to come to AG from HL or other mods I think most of them just don't see the point (i.e. they've no idea what a difference AG is to HL) it's also quite difficult to set the game up properly and without a good setup they don't have a hope vs AG players my 'dream' was always to simplify the whole process and get new blood into AG some people have tried over the years but it's never really stuck if we could release an AG client/pack, installer etc for textures, autoexec, crosshairs, models and ofc other mods along with some decent gaming vids on youtube could definitely increase the interest I believe |

We need more than just realase a new client with with some vids and maybe a new homepage with board. Many hl modders did that, but it doesn't help to attract people. Thats why i think its time that the whole "hl modding scene comes together". valves restrictions are killing us slowly since years. a goldsrc and quake 1 engine based opensource client which can handle all hl mods would be the first step. Thing is, Adrenaline Gamer isn't an entry-level game. When a new player tries it out, they get "greeted" by professionals who have been playing this game for years. I don't see how a new player can possibly enjoy this game if he gets wrecked all the time. Having some background from other FPS games help, but it's still not enough as you have to learn many other things. Sure, you can be a hardcore Half-Life fan and play HL mods everyday, but even then I can see such players leaving after a few AG matches. That's why people play other games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or Overwatch, they are just way more accessible and beginner-friendly. It takes very basic knowledge to get into and you always play opponents that are on the same level as you. Adding some sort of a "rank" or "matchmaking" to AG could help new people find more fair games, but then again, every new player who decides to try this game out will have a hard time, simply because there wouldn't be anyone to match those new players in skill, everyone who plays AG is already too good for a first-time-player. As for the other thing. I was thinking of making a better OpenAG website so people can just download the entire package, drop it to Half-Life and play it instantly. Just like how QuakeWorld has many clients for the game like ezQuake, nQuake, really simple to set them up and start playing (though as you can see they also lack many new players, so doubt it would help much on our end). |

'been lurking this forum for a while so i think it's time to post something :D I've been running an AG server for a while (AG North Korea), and during that time i've seen some newcomers, mostly of them are speedrunning folks and also some quake players trying out the mod. Sadly most of then end up quitting after a few weeks, the main reasons are: -It's hard to find/install, apparently the file at ModDB isn't always available and it is hard to find mirrors -They struggle to find a "playable" match, as most of the populated servers are either team-locked (agstart'd) or the ping is way too high (150+). A good solution for this would be to try to host more servers on more neutral points, like the UK and East USA. Take the HazardCourse server as an example, ping is good for turks but bad for everyone else, and this actually splits the playerbase (i'm not saying the servers are bad but you get my point, i think ^^) -If they ever get into a match, it's usually at crossfire and they just get spawnkilled for 20 minutes, this makes people to think of the mod as a game where "the first to pick the gauss wins" -They feel in a disadvantage when they notice people they play against are using their l33t scripts while they are using none. (ie. they don't have a bhop script to help them, but their opponents do so they can move faster, this makes the "skill(?)" gap even more wider, OpenAG solves this tho) Plus, it is hard to find some because it is some kind of taboo to talk about them on mainstream sites/forums, like the HL Steam Hub What executable proposes is a pretty good idea, a website with an "updated" installer and the keywords "Adrenaline Gamer" so people can easily find it on Google. It also would be good if that installer included stuff like OpenAG, an autoexec with common scripts and the ehll maps. |

If you want new players focus on arcade and arena modus. in every game thats the modus new players love the most. thats what i told julien nearly 8 years ago.sometimes there are more peoply playing hldm severian mode than ag. we need to try to port these modis by givin players acces to high quality content like much better maps. going open source and independent would be the first step in my opinion. you can reach a much bigger playerbase, because people dont need to buy hl to play ag. but my idea is going much farther. its about bringing the whole hl modding scene together. all mods would be use a open source like hl client. through the serverbrowser people can chose the mod they want to play. if they "join" a server which runs a mod they don't need to download the mod. instead the server is sending them all necessary data. with an high quality ingame option menu template which are using all the mods players can set things on the fly. everything is about simplification and making things user friendly as possible. |

You need to know how BH is working. there isnt a script which is doing the technique for you. its just avoids colision with the surface when you are jumping. |

I know that but as i said most of the newcomers i've seen are either speedrunners or quake players so i assume they already know the bunnyhopping techniche And even if they don't, having the script out-of-the-box is still better than nothing. I remember using an easy-installer for quake3 CPMA years ago which included some sample configs from known players (fox, cooller, czm). It also had a map pack. Doing something similar for Half-Life/AG would be helpful for new players |

The beautiful thing is, it is not up to you alone. But you'll have to take the inniative and set it up for everyone else. |

I think this thing has to be changed http://store.steampowered.com/sub/9010/ to AG 7.0 and if we could manage to sponsor it on PCGamer page or somethign im sure we would get players :D and after that a nice "How to start in ag" guide would be even better! I remember there was one time ag was in steam, but i can't find it now.. |

I'm afraid this game is too far off from a newer generation. Graphical wise its non attracting, the community is too small and self centered and the learning curve is too steep for the majority to bite through. Even when getting enough airplay I have sincere doubts about an increasing community |

here is some ideas to advert your game, and make it grow up again lot of old school games are still alive just like cs 1.6 but i see reason for that. people just afraid to try ag mod becouse of hard installation and lot of "secret stuff" you must know on the game. but here are some ideas may help to grow it up * this game need to supported some famous game server hosting . * lot of advertisement for this game . * and ofcourse active social networks . * ( we have demos ) why not to record all that into youtube . * and better to make EHLL wars Live (Live Stream) at twitch & youtube. * and making AG ARCADE / ARENA ONLY Servers that will help alot to grab players into ag mod . * make a donation section and use that money to advertise the game . =) |

I really like all your points Kuma, i thought about streaming AG and will do so myself in the future :) What would really help is getting someone famous from twitch or youtube to play it and showcase it. Kind of like unlost showing half life to turks, i would definetely chip in with a little donation to get more players :) |
