YO K3RRIL TACO BELL?

Alright so this forum (and this game) definitely need some shock therapy. It's a sad day in hell when dirk messages me on Steam and I can't remember the last time I played (or what team I was on - if any - in EHLL). I think if we got this right we would definitely see an influx of people either coming back or coming into the game. I just wanted to get a general consensus about what everyone thinks this update (in all seriousness) should have. I've looked over some of the code and I'll be the first to admit.. a lot of this stuff is over my head, but I think I could figure it out in time and with help from some others who program. One thing is for sure, though, and that is we need quite a few programmers to make this thing work. I'm specifically pointing at godsbane, julien, yalter (who I know is doing his own thing behind the scenes), vamp, etc... The only thing that stopped mod development for ag was that BulliT quit developing it and refused to hand out the code and now we finally have it. It makes zero sense to ignore the possibility of actually fixing the game now. While I am busy with college (internship, a few classes) I still think that I can make some progress on this with help. Here's a few changes I'd be most excited about making: -Fix low resolution bugs and widescreen issues with those resolutions -Fix sprite blur and restore crosshair visuals to pre-Steam release of HL (WON) -Fix netcode... somehow. -Remove features that (to my knowledge) no longer really work (winamp plugin I'm talking to you) -Look into the possibility of making a real fps_max fix that will stop people's vaginas from bleeding (I'm talking to you, Pineapple) -Remove old cvars that are broken -Fix "a3d is not currently running" and other check messages that flood console -Remove the ability for players to crash the servers by changing to certain models (I believe OpenAG might have fixed this not sure) -Force opengf32 cheat check through game's code rather than server-side plugin (I'm talking to you godsbane.. Not sure how this works on your end, but this needs to be kept less secret, even if you only want to give it to the trusted people programming this patch) There are plenty of other things to list, but I'm sure you'll all chime in here. The goal of this project won't be to make this game mainstream. That's never going to happen. The goal is to fix it to the point where people who are still around will enjoy it more and so that some who might have quit due to problems with the game will come back. We will never fix the cheating problem in this game and I don't think we need to. There's too much obsession over that these days. VAC is too broken to be reliable and worrying about catching people with methods outside the capabilities of slag is a full time job anymore. I do, however, think it's possible with the game's code to try and catch some cheaters, though (possibly). What say you? |

"-Fix low resolution bugs and widescreen issues with those resolutions" Don't those depend on your video card settings? |

They used to depend on your aspect ratio settings in your video card, specifically overriding the scaling option set by ur games. Not anymore. |

Yeah that could be a part of a new gamemode. Also remove aimpunch from egon while we're at it (keep the damage but still allow to fight egon easily). Of course, the traditional gamemodes (TDM, DM) and whatnot should still remain, just add some new ones with new tweaks :> |

Sounds great go for it! B) Part of that improved random spawn system code should already exist in hldmpro. |

since we are on it, don't you think that the area of the gausssplash is too big, or that the splash damage is too high? i rather wouldn't change the spawnsystem but with a change to the above matter it would be less easy to abuse |

We can take an example from games like QuakeLive and Reflex. Spawn killing is highly reduced there. Current spawn system in HL/AG is just a joke. |

this might just make the gauss even stronger in 1on1 though. With random spawns on crossfire you are still able to farm most spawns easy with gauss-splash. I generally think that the gausssplash is insane, even more so on lamps on crossfire, stalkyard, stalkx... but nvm if you all want to keep it another thing however, how about changing the order of autoweaponchange? It's probably very simple to change. Would be nice already to have the colt lower priority than the crossbow, yet higher than the glock still. And mb bring mp5, shotgun and crossbow to the same level. mp5 and shotgun already have the same priority it seems... they share it with the colt for some reason |

If you remove the spawnsound (also a feature in AG already) and randomise the spawns, it would be way harder to spawnkill most of the time in crossfire atleast. |

Is it also possible to fix gauss wallbangs? I mean it should wallbang but shooting a lamp and killing a player is just stupid imo :) Edit: I just read Alles_Ratten's post. Yes that was what I am trying to say:D Edited by Tridz, Oct 3 2016, 04:13 PM.

There's a very thin line between tweaking things and taking things away that have allowed this game to stand strong for the past decade. Deconstructing the game's vital characteristics could turn out to, unintentionally, deteriorate the game if it's not to everyone's liking. Make sure the tweaks make a better game for the many, not the few. |

I agree - do not change things for the sake of changing. Use the code to fix ag defects and other bugs introduced by the engine like the mouse issue and release a linux version. |

Everything modified has to be, lets say, behind the curtain. Things we might or might not notice straight away. It could be better reg, smoother gameplay, whatever...but if I'm playing one day and my gauss does less splash damage, or my weapons are not in the legit order or worldspawn starts playing better than me, then I know the game has been massacred. As stated earlier in this thread or another in regards to this topic, open a thread where people can simply post their ideas until you have a reasonable list of tweaks that deem it ok to begin making changes. The final list can be turned into a poll if needed but it would really need a vast majority vote before things physically started. Bare in mind, you will not please everyone. The final product will either result in you being hailed a hero or being the target of an angry, keyboard wielding, mob. |

unmentioned things to fix, in my opinion: - stuck gauss sound bug - surviving explosions bug (Izokars phenomenon) - fix netcode at all - a proper, wide and complete voting menu system - a new standard server config (why is kickvote or instagib disabled by default?) :> |

Not as a change but as an optional mode somehow...I think that doing what santaguass did with HLE would be a good idea. To in-cooperate the weapons from opposing force into AG. The sniper rifle, shocker, spore launcher, deagle etc all make for interesting fights. A few the modes in HLE were pretty fun. Ability to change crosshair, size and colour from a directory whilst in-game was cool, mainly unused I guess but having the options is always better than no options. Would be great if possible, that the fps was no longer limited (in ehll games) because the "unfair benefits" were fixed? removed? So no faster shooting/reloading etc. I know I grumbled at Alles's idea of sorted weapon list, again if it at least becomes an option that isn't forced, it doesn't hurt anything. I guess anyone's ideas are ok and can be added as optional changes that can be made in game so long as they open to everyone and don't give an unfair advantage. Just gonna leave this here in case some have no idea what I'm talking about: http://hle.santagauss.com/ That's all I have for now. Edited by dirky, Oct 12 2016, 05:19 PM.
